He is Your Shepherd

"The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want,
He maketh me lie down in green pastures:
he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil: for thou art with me:
Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:
Thou anointest my head with oil;
My cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."
Psalm 23

He is Your shephard. He is with you. He will lead and guide you. He protects you. Say yes to Him, you will dwell with Him... forever.

The Will of God

"..... lead me to the rock that is higher than I." Psalm 61:2b

This is a prayer of David's, and it should be our prayer also. We should constantly be asking of the Lord to lead us to THAT place. This is the place that in our own strenghth we could never get there. This is the place where if we look at our natural ability, we could not do it. Yet this is the place that God has ordained YOU to be. This is a place that God has for you that is higher than you will ever be or imagine to be. It will be only through your trust and your willingness, He can take you to that special place. That place being....the will of God.

Allow Him to lead you there. He will lead you to that place that is higher than you. Because there is no safer place than.... the will of God.

He is just that into You!

"For God so loved the world, that He gave is own begotten Son, that whosoever shall believe Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

Yes, this is probably the most quoted scripture in the history of mankind, but I cannot help but come back to it. This is a true testament of the love of God. Think about it. He loved you so much that He sacrificed His Son for sins that you have committed and even ones that you have not committed yet. That is love! How many of us are that committed to anyone? Would we take the burdens of another person's sins as long as they live? I don't think I could honestly take on that commitment. If you are honest with yourself, most of us would not be able to take that on. But that is the difference between God and us, His love is truly unconditional. He loves us despite of us, and because of us.

God's love for us is everlasting and real. When in doubt, just read the above scripture. He loves you so much. He is just that into you!

A Forgiving God

"Have mercy on me, O God,according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion, blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all of my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. Psalm 51:1-2

Isn't is great to know that God is a God of forgiveness? No matter what we have done or not done, He is such a forgiving and gracious God. Thank you, Lord.

In the above scripture, David is pleading with God to forgive him after he committed adultery with Bathsheba and plotted to have her husband killed. Wow, King David, the person that God himself coins "a man after God's own heart", committed adultery and had someone killed and in the end, God forgave him? Yes. God did. And He will do the same for you and I.

The problem that we have around forgiveness, is that the fact that PEOPLE do not always forgive us like God forgives us. There are some people that will hold our sins over our head forever. This is not what God calls us to do as fellow Christians, but in reality it happens. As hard as it is sometimes, always remember that you CANNOT change the way people feel about you or their opinion of you. God can, but you can't. The person that you need to be worried about is if God forgives you, and if He forgives you, than that is all that matters. Not to say that there are not consequences associated with our sin, but if we ask, God forgives. We no longer have to stand in bondage of our sin.

God is a merciful God. He is a God of compassion and unfailing love. Most of all, He is a forgiving God. He will forgive us. Actually, He already has.

Working It Out

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

This is a familiar scripture that we all have heard quoted one time or another. I think that we quote it so much that sometimes we as Christians take the power out of it. Yes, all things will work together for the good... but the question is.. do YOU believe it? Do you believe that all things work together for the good when you do not have the rent money? Do you believe that all things will work out for the good when your life is chaotic and out of control? Do you believe all things will work out for good when you lose a loved one? Or is it all lip service?

The fact is whether we want to hear or not, we may lose that house or we may lose that loved one, or chaos may not immediately cease in our lives. We were never promised that this life would be easy. What God does promises is that it will all work out for the GOOD. We may not see it at the time, and may not for years to come, but He is working it out for your good. It is a hard concept to grasp sometimes, but it is truth.

No matter the situation or circumstances...He is working it out for you. All you need to do is trust Him. No more lip service. Just do it.

Joy Will Come in the Morning

"For His anger is but for a moment,
His favor is for life;
Weeping may endure for a night,
But joy comes in the morning
Psalm 30:5

It is so great to have these promises of God. He tells us that His favor for us is for life.. Isn't that incredible? It is so great to know that God loves us so much that he promises favor upon His children. No matter how hard or far we fall, His FAVOR always picks us up when we are ready.

God also promises that no matter what we go through or how bad it gets, we can and will make it through. The pain, hurt and tears are temporary, but the joy that God gives us is eternal. Our "night" may last a day, month, a year, or several years, but the promise is that JOY will come. He promised it, so He will do it.

Hold on to the promises of God. Joy does come in the morning!

Heartbreak Hotel

Heartbreak. There is nothing like it. I would not wish it on my worse enemy. It is a horrible feeling. Let's face it, we have all been through it. Most of us will think about that boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife that broke our heart, but heartbreak can come in different forms through different relationships. It can come through friends and as many of us can affirm, through family. Personally, I have had my share of heartbreak, and to tell you the truth, it has really gotten to me sometimes. I would often ponder on the Whitney Houston and Kelly Price song Heartbreak Hotel, and the relationship with that song was too real.... "...This is the Heartbreak Hotel....This is the Heartbreak Hotel.." Yes, I have had residence at the "Heartbreak Hotel", not understanding why things have turned out the way that they did. But I also understand and I hold on to the hope that this will not last always.....

In John 14:16 it says "And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide in you forever". In this scripture, Jesus is talking to and reassuring His disciples before His death; He is letting them know that He will be their "Comforter", and he will always be with them. God does the same thing for us today; He is a Comforter to us when we are heartbroken and He is with us always. If we allow Him to, He can and will get us through any heartbreak that we have experienced. It may not be an easy process, but with the help of God, we can make it. He promised He would help us through it all.

Allowing God to comfort me through heartbreak has helped me tremendously. He has given me the hope that I needed to move on. He spoke to me through His Word and let me know He has more for me. Sometimes I backslide and think about the past but I no longer live in the "Heartbreak Hotel". I have packed my things and moved out. God can and will do the same for you. So get to packing...moving day is here.

A Joyful Noise

"Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all ye lands!
Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come into His presence with singing.
Know that the Lord, that He is God;
It is He that made us, and not we ourselves
We are His sheep and the sheep of His pasture.
Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him. and bless His name.
For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And his truth endures to all generations".
Psalm 100

Oh, the goodness of God! This scripture just confirms the goodness of our Lord! He is God! He made us! He is merciful toward us always and lets not talk the His grace that He extends to ALL of US! He does that for you! He does that for me! So make a joyful noise to Him! Thank the Lord! Thank the Lord! God is good!

When It All Seems Too Much

At times, it all seems like it is too much. The demands of life, the expected and the unexpected, can be too much sometimes. It is so easy to be consumed and burdened with these things. When we are burdened and consumed, we tend to worry. With worry, we do not have faith. Without faith, we cannot please God. This is a cycle that God is calling us to break.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and, and my burden is light” Matthew 11: 28-30

God wants us to give it all to Him, because only He can give us the peace that we need to get through any situation that we are in. He can give us peace in chaos. This peace that God gives us is peace that we cannot humanly understand. We even start wondering why we have so much peace. Guess what, we do not need to understand it. God has it all in control, and whatever comes our way, He gives us the strength to handle up.

Overwhelmed? Give it to God. Living in chaos? Call Him up. Feel like it is too much? Look above. He will truly give rest for your soul.

God Got You!

"Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb.
Trust in the Lord and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:1-4

Have you ever been that person who tries their best to be a "good" person by treating everyone right and being the good Christian that you should be, yet you feel like you get the short end of the stick sometimes? Does it seems like the people who could care less about people and God are more "blessed" sometimes? I know that I have felt that way many times. Sometimes it seems like those people are not going through half of the issues that I am, and to make things worse, it seems like those people are "prospering"! Their life seems to get better, as mine seems to get worse. Why is that? I am the one that actually cares, while they could care less. It just does not seem fair. Well, I'm glad that things are not always what they seem.

In the scripture above, God reassures us to not to worry about those people. Do not worry about the things that they are doing. This is because just as it seems that they are doing well to us on the outside, but ultimately, they will have to pay for the choices they have made. It may not be today, or tomorrow, or even next year, but one day they will have to pay. God continues to say in that scripture that if we trust Him, He will give us the desires of our heart. In terms that we use today; "God got you"! He knows what you want and need in this life, and if you continue to trust and seek Him, those this that He has told you will come to past. Of course, none of us in this life are exempt from trials and tribulations in this life, but all and all, God is there and will not forsake you or His promises.

So don't worry about what people are or are not doing. That is not your job, that is God's. Focus on what God has for you and your life. God got you!

"Praise the Lord!
Praise God in His sanctuary,
Praise Him in His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!
Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!

Let everything that has breath Praise the Lord!
Praise The Lord!" Psalm 150

Your Call

"The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified." Isaiah 61:1-3

Reading the above scripture about the Prophet Isaiah and the calling on his life, reminds me so much of the calling that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had on his life. Similar to Isaiah, God appointed and called Dr. King to touch many lives and bring people together that otherwise may not have gotten together. He had a mighty call on his life, and now we celebrate "his calling" well after his death over 40 years ago.

It is not only people like Isaiah and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. who God has called; God has called each and every one of us. As a body, we are called to bring others to Christ. As individuals, our callings may be very different. It is up to us to pray and seek God about what that calling is. All in all, our callings are to bring glory to God.

In honor of Martin Luther King Day, and the anointed life that he lived doing what he was called to do, I encourage everyone to seek God and answer the call that He has for you.

Real Love

For this morning, I just want us to meditate of on I Corinthians 13:1-8a (NIV); one of my favorite scriptures in the Bible:

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge , and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, O am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor an surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protect, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves.

Love never fails."

I get so touched by reading this, because this is REAL LOVE. This is the love that God demonstrates to us, and in turn, we should demonstrate to others. Want to learn how to love? Read above. Want to learn what love is? Read above. Anything else is not true love. God already gave us the blueprint of what love is, we just need to follow it.

He's Doing a New Thing

Forget the former things, do not dwell on the past. Behold, I will do a new thing! Now it springs up; do you perceive it? I will make a way in the desert and streams in the wastelands. Isaiah 43:18-19

This scripture is very powerful in that it talks of the divine power of God. He has such power to change people, circumstances, and situations. It is because of His power to make a way through it all that we must do what this scripture is requiring of us to do: Do not dwell on the past. And that my friend, is the hard part.

We have all have had to in some form in our lives,.... move on. It may be moving on from friendships, relationships, jobs, family, events, circumstances, hurts, etc. Let's face it, in life, we just encounter a constant flow of change. Just think of how we thought we would never get over that first boyfriend/girlfriend. Do you even remember their name now?(I know that you probably remember their name, Im just proving a point :-)) And think about how a lot of us do not even talk to the people that we were convinced in high school was going to be our BFF (Best Friends Forever). We change, they change, and then we find out what we had in common then.... is not what we have in common now. This why God is calling us to let go and "forget" those things that he has called us from. And we want to do what He said because, He promised that He is going to do a new thing in our lives. God has a plan for us and He knows our heart's desires and what we need even more than we do ourselves! He has a purpose for each and every one of us, but if we continually hold on to the past, we cannot truly achieve and receive all that He has for us.

So, Move on and Keep on. Let go and Let God. He is doing a new thing.... in You!

God Is Still Faithful

Haiti. As I look at the television at the images from Haiti, it truly saddens me. I just cannot imagine the range of emotions that the people of Haiti are dealing with now. Many people have lost everything. Their family. Their homes. Their belongings. And worse of all, many people have loss their hope. I can see how people can question God in such a devastating situation. Why them, God? All in all, it just does not seem fair.

One of the chapters I think of when someone is going through a tragedy is Lamentations 3. This chapter is describing all of the graphic things that a person has gone through in their life. This person is describing how they feel God has turned on them and through this experience how their "strength and hope has perished from the Lord." It is a very dark, sad chapter, about what this person has experienced, until....

"Through the Lord's mercies, we are not consumed. Because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is your faithfulness..." Lamentations 3:22. Even through tragedy of this person in chapter 3, He still recognized that God is faithful. Like so, I truly believe that even through this unimaginable tragedy in Haiti, God is faithful. God is showing himself through people all over the world who are giving of time, money, prayers, and possessions to come help the people of Haiti. We are coming together and reaching out to the people who need us most at this time. It really touches my heart when we can come together, because this is what being a Christian is all about. This is what Jesus did. We are called to reach out to those in need.

Although we may never understand why circumstances like this happen, understand that God is still faithful even through the midst of tragedy. Let him use you to do what you can for the people of Haiti, whether it be financial or continually lifting them up in prayer. We need to do what we can do to help, and God will do the rest. Great Is His Faithfulness.

In The Morning

“For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities,
nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth,
nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39.”

Just about every morning, I wake up with a song on my mind, and through
that song, it helps me get going for the day. Recently, I woke up a
song called "In the Morning", by Ledisi on my mind. It is a song
that I have really begun to like because of the neo-soul sound and
mellow jazzy beats. I remember when I really began to dissect the lyrics
to this song; She sings, "..In
the morning, will you be here in the morning.. to love me, love me,
love me...."
After really listening to the lyrics of this
song, I discovered that it is actually a sad song. In this song, she
is wondering after spending the night with a gentleman, will he even
be there in the morning to love her with the love that she needs.
But sadly in this song, his track record has proven that he will
probably leave her again, and will not be there to give her the
love that she so desires. So she stands there...disappointed...again.

So how many of us are in this situation or have been in this situation?
Waiting for someone to love us? To give us the love that we truly want
and desire? And how many of us have felt just as disappointed as many
times as this person in this song.... we are left wondering and waiting
for a certain person to love you back the way that you deserve. I'm not
just talking about a male-female relationship, it could be that you are
disappointed in a parent who was not there for you like you wanted them
to be, or a friend,or another family member. It can be anyone who you felt
was not there for you. I think that we have all experienced that in some
light. The thing is that people will fail us, and they will not always be
there for us the way that we want to. Even if they don't mean to, they will
let us down at some point, just as we will let others down, because we all are
human and have some type of selfishness within ourselves.

So how do we find that love that we all desire? Well, the thing is when
we really look for love, we need to look above. According to Romans 8,
nothing we ever do, or ever say, or ever will do will separate us from
God's love. He is with us. Always. His love never fails. He will
always be there. Period. End of story. And when we look to him and
accept His love first, he can be that perfect guide in showing us who in
this world can be the person that can love us and be there for us the
way that we desire. It makes sense to go to God, cause he is this the one
that made us and knows us. He knows what we want, need, and desire.

Seek God's love. Through him he will show you your way. Because one thing
you will always know is that He will always be there.... In the morning.

Encourage Yourself

Let's be truthful, there are times in our life when things go bad. I mean really bad. Those are the times when everything is cloudy and you can not see your way out. And just when it seems like you cannot take it anymore, it gets.....WORSE. Have you ever had those days? I know that I have had a few. Those are the days when it seemed like the world was literally crashing in on me. I am sure that there is at least one time in each of our lives that we have felt that way and have had those severely dark moments.

So what do we do? When dealing with some of the intense circumstances, trials, and tribulations that we have to deal with in this life sometimes, it is normal to seek out encouragement from others to help us make it through. We may look to family, friends, spouses, or even the church.... but what dowe do, when no one is there? It is in this time you have to...ENCOURAGE YOURSELF.

In Samuel 30:6, the Bible says "And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God" What? David encouraged himself in the Lord. People were talking about killing him, yet David encouraged himself! Another version of the Bible says that David "strengthened" himself in the Lord. Basically, he got himself together and remembered who God was! He served an all-knowing and all-powerful God that could bring him out of any situation. All he had to do is listen to what God was telling him to do. In the end, David encouraged himself, listened to the Lord, and the Lord brought him through.

God is just as faithful to us now. No matter what the situation is, God can bring us through it. We just need to encourage ourselves in the Lord and remember who He is. Your friends, family, spouses, and the people in the church have limitations, but you serve a powerful God that defies limits! ENCOURAGE YOURSELF IN THE LORD!

Got Faith?

Faith. It is something that in this Christian walk that we face everyday, we MUST have. It is a requirement. It is a prerequisite to pleasing God. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6: But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. So without faith... we CANNOT please God. We cannot move into what He wants us to do in our life, we cannot move into our purpose, we cannot be who He wants us to be without... Faith. The concept seems so easy, but yet so hard...

I myself have struggled with faith a lot over the years. There are things that God has told me would come to past, yet I have not seen any evidence of it AT ALL. As a result, my faith has waivered somewhat. No...it has waivered a lot over the years. I sometimes wonder if I heard God right, or I question God if it really will ever come to pass. I mean, truthfully, it is hard to have faith sometimes. But I then begin to contemplate on what faith really is....

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." This passage in Hebrews 11:1, gives us the true definition of what faith is. Faith Is..those things that He tells us is going to come to pass, yet all odds are against you, but because HE said it, you still have that hope. Faith is... when year after year after year passes, and still nothing, but you still hold on to that hope a size of a mustard seed. Faith is... when God has given you this big vision, and you have NO IDEA how you are going to follow it through and on top of that NO money to do it...that is faith. This is what faith is. I will not be able to see it, because if I see it, it would not be faith!!

I want to encourage everyone this morning to faith this morning. Don't give up. Don't give in. If He has given you to, He will bring it to past. Not necessarily in the timetable that we want it to come to pass in, but it WILL come to pass.
God will do what He said He would do. No matter how impossible a situation looks, no matter how many years has gone by, no matter what.. do what is pleasing to God and what we need in this Christian walk and get.... Faith!

We Fall Down But...

We fall down, but we get up, we fall down, but we get up....for a saint is just a sinner who fell down, and got up." As I listened to these words sung by Donnie McClurkin as a tribute to Steve Harvey on the Celebration of Gospel last night, I forgot how powerful this song really was. I've heard this song so many times; Ive even choreographed a dance off this song for a church dance group. When the song was first released several years ago, the words were powerful and touching to me, but as it was severely overplayed shortly after its debut, it became just another song to me. But tonight was different; I was touched by this song like when I heard it the first time, but not just the song, but the lyrics and what it means in terms of our Christian walk.

You know what I have discovered? It is so easy to fall down. Let's face it, the concept of "falling" goes right along with the laws of gravity that many of us have learned in basic physics class. When an object is in the midst of a fall, we do not have to do anything to aid it to keep falling. It falls just fine by itself. Gravity is pulling it down. No help needed in falling at all. It is the getting back up to the place where the object fell from, where help is needed.

That is so true for us as we go along our Christian walk. It is so easy for us to fall, so easy for us to get caught up in the things of this world. It is so easy for us to do any and everything that we know that is wrong. It seems like doing wrong is never a struggle. We start "falling" and it seems like "gravity"(aka sin) itself continues to pull us down. We tend to have to hit the "ground" hard before we know and realize that we need help with the hardest part, and that is getting back up.

In Psalm 40:2, the psalmist writes, "He also brought me out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and stand my feet upon a rock." It is only God himself that can help us when we fall. He can pull us through each and every situation that goes on in our lives, no matter how much we have fallen. We just need to realize...we cannot get up by ourselves! It is like that object getting back to the place that it fell from by itself. Not gonna happen!It needs help. So do we. We need help in getting us back to the place where we fell from. God is the only one that can do that for us. He is the only one strong and powerful enough to do that for us. But we do still have a choice in the matter, we can choose to get up or not.

We know in life we WILL fall down. It is a guarantee. But do we allow God to help us get up? Call out to Him and he can help you "get up" today. "Because a saint is just a sinner who fell down.....and got up."

"Father, Can You Here Me"?

“Father ,Can You Hear Me ?” I know that so many of us has asked God this question at least once in our lives….and we wonder….does He really hear us? Well, that is a question that I have asked of God many, many times throughout my life……

A few months back, I remember reading about Tyler Perry's life and the abuse that he endured as a child. To my surprise, the article went into pretty graphic details of the physical, emotional, and sexual abuse that occurred in his life. Wow! It was heavy. Very heavy. I never knew an article could bring up so much emotion in me. The next thing you know, tears were just streaming down my face and then came the flashbacks…..the “raw emotion” of the history of my own abuse. The history of my own rejection. The history of my own pain. It just came out of me… right then! Going through that very heavy experience... I remember those times when I wondered if God could hear me…or did He even care? I know many of us can look back throughout our lives, and we have asked the same question, wondering if God is there through our pain.

Well, the short answer to the question is “Yes”, God does hear us. He knows are pains, He knows our tribulations, He knows all that we have been through in our lives. He is the healer and wants to heal us from all of that pain….and give us freedom and liberty. That is what 2 Corinthians 3:17 talks about “…where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty”. Our only job is to give it all to Him, and He can and will heal us from all the pain. We get stuck with our pain because we do not let it go, and give it all to Him. We have to let go and let God! We have to let go of the resentment we have toward the people that hurt us, and some of us even have a resentment toward God and ourselves that we have to let go…so that we can have true freedom! We have to be the people that God that has called us to be. If we hold on to it…it will hold on to us…and keep us bound!

After that experience I had, I found the scene where the choir is singing “Father, Can You Hear Me?” from the Tyler Perry’s Diary of A Mad Black Woman. The scene when the mother comes into the church singing who was previously addicted to drugs, always gets to me. It's such a strong message that is sent. She sings how she can’t do it by herself and how God is the only one that has allowed her to get help and helped pulled her through her struggles. Well, she is right! We have to remember …God is the only one can pull us through whatever situation we are in; we just have to allow Him too. Give it to Him, and He will free you from all your hurt and your pain. He does hear us and an ultimate deliverer!
